inspire+ are a Grantham based Sport Charity, who serve Schools in South Kesteven and wider Lincolnshire.
inspire+ was started in September 2011, by Vincent Brittain. Before this Vincent was the Partnership Development Manager for the South West Lincs School Sport Partnership. It was at this time that the Government decided to cut funding for School Sport Partnerships and because of this, the partnerships chair of Young Ambassadors Debbie Foote, led a national petition to keep funding for school sport. As a result of the young people’s petition some money was retained but only for school competition, this would mean that the School Sport Partnership would still end. To carry on the sporting work in South Kesteven, Vincent secured backing from a local company and inspire+ was born!
For the first year it was solely run by Vincent, in its second year 3 part-time staff were taken on and now to the present day with the charity hosting 12 members of staff and over 15 self-employed coaches.
inspire+ is a totally unique charity, who receive no Government funding and are recognised nationally as delivering the most comprehensive package to Primary Schools.
inspire+ aims to improve the lives for Young People through sport and healthy active lifestyles. We serve secondary schools through providing leadership training and opportunities for students who want to gain experience, skills & knowledge of sports coaching and also the organisation and running of sporting events. Through this programme we have had 3 students go on to sit on the National Young Ambassador Steering Group and receive National awards for their volunteering work.
Our main service is to Primary schools, for which we provide a comprehensive package including specialist sports coaching, teacher training, programmes for Gifted & Talented pupils and a mentoring programme to help those pupils who like sport but suffer with low confidence. We have five Ambassadors who make visits and regular communications to our schools and work with the children; these are Paralympian Sam Ruddock, Adventurer Sarah Outen MBE, 401 Marathon Runner Ben Smith, Paralympic Silver Medallist Jonathan Broom-Edwards and Olympic Swimmer Sophie Allen. Each academic year concludes in over 1000 primary school children taking part in their own Mini Olympics at the Grantham Meres Athletics Stadium, which is organised by the charities secondary school volunteers; the Young Ambassador Steering Group. We also hold Sports camps during school holidays to provide sporting provisions for youngsters to keep them active and engaged in new sports.
The charity has created a county wide resource called the Legacy Challenge which engages children and families to lead more active and healthier lifestyles. This National Award Winning product is backed by Lincolnshire County Council and therefore a free resource to Primary Schools across Lincolnshire with a KS1 and KS2 resource.
inspire+ is now in its 6th year and rely on generating its own funding through school memberships, grants & awards, sponsorship and fund-raising opportunities. Every penny raised will be given back into our schools, through the continuation of our services and initiatives to benefit the lives of young people throughout South Kesteven. inspire+ aims to follow its sporting values of courage, determination and achieve in all its programmes to achieve its aim of working together for young people.
