Our Trustees

Our Board of Trustees is responsible for shaping our strategic direction. The Trustees have overall responsibility for the governance of the charity and ensure we deliver our mission.

Darren Joint

CHAIRMAN OF TRUSTEES

Darren is an engineer, trained in the Automotive manufacturing and product development world of Ford Motor Company. This corporate experience helped him develop strong people, technical and commercial acumen, in lean manufacturing, product design, business development & leadership roles. Passionate about UK manufacturing as a force for good, Darren serves as Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP Manufacturing Board and the Greater Lincolnshire Engineering and Manufacturing (GLEAM) Network.

Darren brings his business perspective and leadership to the role of Chair of the board of trustees at inspire+. As a keen participant in Crossfit, Triathlon and other endurance sports, Darren has directly benefited from both the physical challenges and mental health benefits offered by an active lifestyle. He hopes to share these healthy, happy, active insights and to make the positive impact of inspire+ on the lives of young people, part of his lasting legacy.

Bijal Ladva

Bijal is a qualified optometrist who studied at Bradford University and is a director at four Specsavers businesses.

In the past he had been involved in the steering group for the first Gravity Fields Festival in Grantham, Regional Chair of the Nottingham, Derby and Lincolnshire Specsavers Directors, attending meetings with the National Board members. And he has also been Chairman of the Grantham Business club, where he looked after the business interests of over 140 companies in Grantham. He has also been a school governor for Barrowby School in the past.

Over the past few years, in partnership with inspire+. He had given talks to numerous primary schools about the importance of eye health, and given career talks to Secondary schools.

He has also been involved in the Business Skills Pathway, speaking and giving advice about interviews for university and job placements.

Simon Barter

Simon worked in the outdoors as an instructor (climbing, canoeing etc.) before being a manager of PGL activity centres. He remained in management for 20 years (Normandy, Paris, Caythorpe) often setting up PGL’s new big flagship project.

During this time he consulted for various businesses and charitable organisations, including the beginnings of Inspire+. Simon then got the job of setting up PGL as a business in Australia. After 5 years and 3 new sites later (2 in Victoria & 1 in Queensland) the business now has a turnover of $10m.

Having achieved what he wanted and for personal reasons he have temporarily moved on and took a year break in Barbados, where he expanded his consultancy and started writing a book. Simon keenly monitor the progress of inspire+ and look forward to continuing involvement.

Paul Stokes

Paul retired from SKDC after 28 years of service in April 2022. He was delighted to have worked across a range of services, including high-profile projects as project manager, such as the Olympic Torch in 2012 and Gravity Fields festivals in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. His projects also allowed him to work alongside and with inspire+ numerous times, and he had long been an advocate before becoming a trustee. Paul is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and is currently working on a range of Community projects. He has a lifelong passion for sports and is delighted to be able to regularly watch 4 of his grandchildren play football in their respective youth football teams.

Rob Price

Rob is a technologist, having worked for global technology and payment businesses in several executive roles and been named in the world’s top 50 most influential in Digital Transformation in 2016. He is a co-founder of the global Corporate Digital Responsibility (CDR) movement, which focuses on the appropriate and ethical use of data and technology to impact the communities, society and the planet positively.

Rob was involved in delivering the London 2012 Olympics through the provision of technology and still runs and cycles regularly around the East Midlands. He also spends many hours at the side of football pitches watching his daughter play for a number of local U18 football teams, both in Long Bennington and Nottingham.

Rob hopes to bring a view on the potential of technology to promote and help the goals of inspire+ and continue to make a positive impact on communities in the region.

Tom Mountain

Tom has worked in the outdoor activity industry for 18 years, working in the UK and France, for the leading outdoor activity provider in the UK. Most recently he’s been the General Manager of a 1000 bed activity centre and now is supporting other sites as a Regional Manager.

Tom is passionate about providing fun and challenging life experiences for children and has been able to see first hand how organised activities can provide this.

Tom’s values and enthusiasm align with the those of Inspire+ and he’s pleased to be able to support Inspire+ in quality delivery.

He settled in Lincolnshire 10 years ago with his wife and now has three primary aged children.

Rod Tyler

Following a successful career in banking and finance, he was given the opportunity to work in sports development by Badminton England for 5 years until 2013. More recently he have been involved in development work for Nottinghamshire Badminton Association.
Rod have been involved with inspire+ since its inception as a Trustee/Director, and as a coach, he is currently the treasurer for the charity and he is a passionate supporter of the opportunities the charity provides for young people.

Jenny Barnes

Having worked in Students’ Unions for 10+ years, Jenny is working as a Director of a software company, which supports  Students’ Unions to get students across the UK involved in sports, societies and other areas of student life. She has a love for all sport, particularly swimming, and the value sport and exercise has for better mental health. 

Steve Bull

Steve has worked in education since 2005. He attended the University of Bedfordshire and the University of Lincoln and had a Degree in Sports Science and a Masters in Education. Steve has held many roles within education, including Head of Education at inspire+ from 2017 to 2023.
He is incredibly passionate about lifelong learning and believes that ‘every day is a school day’. Promoting the habit of lifelong learning is an ethos I try and live by and one that I advocate.

Chris Game

Chris is currently Assistant Headteacher at Jack Hunt School in Peterborough and has been an Assistant Headteacher since September 2000 and previously have been a Head of PE and Director of Sport. He has responsibility for Year 6 to Year 7 transition, leading our work on the Jack Hunt Community Learning Trust, Community Sport, Year 7 Curriculum and our Primary Sports Partnership. We currently work with 10 primary schools working with them to develop initiatives for sport premium.

Chris is also part of the Peterborough Active Life Strategy Group that is planning and writing an action Plan for all groups in Peterborough. This work involves working with many local partners to develop a 10-year plan for the City.

Philip Garner

A graduate from Warwick University. An early career in research, immunology and virology, in London and Warwick.  A former public health specialist with experience in health protection and health improvement for more than 30 years across the NHS and with local authorities working with a range of county partnerships across the West and East Midlands seeking to improve the population’s health, including work on HIV prevention, sexual health, teenage pregnancy, community safety, obesity and physical activity.  Now retired.

A veteran athlete (Hammer and Discus), local athletics coach (Throws) and volunteer administrator with Grantham Athletic Club, based at the South Kesteven Stadium, Grantham.

Having worked in Students’ Unions for 10+ years, Jenny is working as a Director of a software company, which supports  Students’ Unions to get students across the UK involved in sports, societies and other areas of student life. She has a love for all sport, particularly swimming, and the value sport and exercise has for better mental health.

Bijal Ladva

Bijal is a qualified optometrist who studied at Bradford University and is a director at four Specsavers businesses.
