Apprentice of the Month –
Eva Hambling – Level 4 Sports Coach
Eva Hambling is a Level 4 Sports Coach apprentice working at Coltishall Primary School.
With a lifelong passion for sport and a strong commitment to inspiring young people,
Eva’s apprenticeship journey shows how hands-on experience and the right support can
build confidence, skills, and a clear career pathway.
Volunteering as a pathway into apprenticeship
Eva’s apprenticeship journey began with volunteering. She spent a full year volunteering
at Coltishall Primary School, gaining experience, building relationships, and proving her
commitment. Her dedication paid off when she was offered an apprenticeship, allowing her
to turn her passion for sport into a career.
How an apprenticeship helped develop skills and confidence
Throughout her apprenticeship, Eva has developed valuable skills working with children
of all abilities and needs. She has learned how to adapt sessions to ensure every child
feels included, supported, and confident to participate.
With guidance from her mentor, Dave, Eva has also grown her subject knowledge across the
PE curriculum. She now feels confident teaching sports she had never taught before,
gaining experience that would have been difficult to achieve without the structure and
support of an apprenticeship.
Making a real impact in schools
One of Eva’s proudest achievements has been the positive change she’s seen in pupil
engagement at Coltishall Primary School. Since she started, the number of children
reluctant to take part in PE sessions has dropped by 75%. When asked why, many pupils
explained that “Miss Hambling gave me confidence to do it.”
This impact highlights how apprentices can make a meaningful difference in schools,
supporting both physical activity and children’s self-belief.
Looking ahead
Eva’s long-term ambition is to become a full-time PE teacher or football coach.
Her apprenticeship has given her the experience, confidence, and clear direction
needed to take the next steps in her career.
Would Eva recommend an inspire+ apprenticeship?
“Absolutely,” Eva says. “Since becoming an Inspire+ apprentice I have gained confidence
and experience in sports I had no idea how to teach. Thanks to Dave, I can now confidently
teach nearly all sports in the curriculum.”
