Talented Athlete Programme

Year 1 and 2

The basic multi-skills and FUNdamentals needed for sports are extremely important to learn at an early age. Our KS1 Talented Athlete Programme takes place over 5 training sessions where parents are also invited to stay so they can learn what their children are being taught and can then continue to help their child develop.

Designed around activities and games, this programme aims to support the core physical skills of this age group including; coordination and agility, core stability, spatial awareness and many more skills, whilst exploring the ‘Values of sport’: Teamwork, Self-belief, Determination, Passion, Honesty and Respect.

Working to enhance these FUNdamental movement skills of balance co-ordination and agility we will cover different types of jumps and throws along with running. The children will gain an Athletics Innovation award.

Year 3 and 4

We have established a club for Talented Athletetic pupils in Year 3 and 4. The aim of the sessions is to help them establish the basics needed for playing sport which are important to learn from an early age.

These sessions will cover skill development, teamwork, communication, nutrition, psychology and confidence by doing a variety of activities led by inspire+ staff.

This programme has been further enhanced with the addition of the charity’s Olympic (swimmer) ambassador Sophie Allen and Paralympic athlete Sam Ruddock.

There have been numerous success stories from this programme where pupils have gone on to gain places in county academies for their sport using some of the techniques they have learnt from our training. At the session’s, parents are also invited to stay so they can be involved in their child’s development.

Year 5, 6 and 7

After consulting with local teachers, inspire+ developed a new initiative during the 2012/13 academic year aimed at supporting young people who are recognised by schools as being Talented Athletes in PE/Sport. inspire+ has organised opportunities for pupils in years 5, 6 & 7 to gain more knowledge and skills to help them progress as athletes. Pupils will participate in workshops including Physiology, Diet & Nutrition, Biomechanics and Long Term Athlete Development.

As this programme has developed each year, inspire+ pupils attend twilight sessions local to their area, before their final session being a full day trip. inspire+ take approximately 50 pupils on the programme bringing in Ambassadors, Olympian Sophie Allen, Paralympian Sam Ruddock and Roots to Food to provide all the students with the knowledge and tools required to excel to their full potential in their chosen sports.

Grant Scheme

inspire+ will support pupils identified by the school as Gifted and Talented into sport, if kit, transport, club membership fees are a barrier to reach their potential. This is reviewed on a case by case basis and is limited to a small number of recipients each academic year.
