Apprenticeship FAQs

Will inspire+ be my employer?
No. inspire+ are a registered training provider. We will support you and your employer throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. You will be assigned an Assessor / Tutor, who will be responsible for delivering a minimum of 20% off-the job training. Your assigned tutor is dependent upon your geographical location.
How do I find a school to work at?
inspire+ will support you as much as possible when you are looking for a school and will send your application to schools in your area. However, finding an employer is essentially your responsibility. Look on job boards and school websites in your area for vacancies. We also encourage applicants to contact schools in your area as they may be open to recruiting an apprentice. Once you have submitted an application, it will be screened by our recruitment team if your application is successful, inspire+ will send your application form to schools in your area.
What hours will I work in my school?
This is entirely dependent upon your employer. As your training provider, inspire+ do not make decisions regarding employment contracts.

To complete the programme, your contract must be for a minimum of 13 months. You will be expected to work 35+ hours per week. Apprentice hours of work tend to be between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday-Friday.

What is the qualification I will be completing during the PE, Sport and Wellbeing programme?
This will depend on your career path and previous qualifications, however. the majority of apprentices complete the Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship Standard. We also offer a range of additional qualifications alongside this to support further career development.
What will my main responsibilities be in school?
Around 80% of your time on programme will be spent with your employer. You will be assigned a mentor in school who will be responsible for timetabling your duties. These duties may vary from school to school. However, they are likely to include:

  • Supporting PE and Sport activities in school
  • Supporting ordinary classroom activities
  • Assisting with the running of before and / or after school clubs
  • Offering pastoral support for small groups or individuals
  • Gifted & Talented and / or low self-esteem mentoring support for pupils with SEN or disabilities
  • Working alongside other staff members to promote wellbeing
  • Lunch time supervision / clubs / activities
  • Competition management and assistance at events
  • Data reporting for PE and Sport
  • Developing programmes of study / lessons for classes and individuals
  • Organising and running sports events
When does my apprenticeship start?
If you are successfully appointed as an apprentice, you should be available to attend training in the last week of August. You will receive a week of intensive training and will then join your employer for INSET days in early September. Please make sure you are available for all training sessions. Specific dates will be shared when you have been accepted onto the programme.
Who are Inspire Education Group?
inspire+ deliver the programme in partnership with Inspire Education Group, this college group consists of a group of colleges and a University centre in Peterborough and Stamford. Applicants do not need to worry if they are not within commutable distance from the college. All training is delivered locally in the below areas.
Who pays me?

Your employer is responsible for paying you a salary / wage. The minimum rate for an apprenticeship will be £6.40 per hour as of April 2024. For more information visit https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates
