The Inspire+ programme is designed to support the next generation of sports coaches and PE teachers. Students access free National Governing Body (NGB) bolt on awards and have the opportunity to be mentored by NGB development officers and coaches. Each year Inspire+ runs a launch evening for the new Sports Leadership Academy students. Every launch is attended by over 100 pupils from across the local secondary schools.
At the launch all students are given the opportunity to talk to a number of different sports coaches to help them decide which free qualifications they would like to sign up to. All students will then be encouraged to complete 10 voluntary hours within that sport at local community events, competitions and clubs. They also received a free T-shirt for being part of the Sport Leadership Academy, part funded by SKDC. The students are also trained in warm up games to deliver during sessions and also good practice for coaching a high quality session. Some of the students going on to remain on the programme for a number of years, gaining 100's of volunteering hours. Our Sports Leaders are also a key part to the success of our half-term sports camps.
As part of the Sports Leadership Academy we are working alongside Terry Plumb and the School Games Organiser team to support Primary School competition. The video below features several of our Sports Leaders volunteering at the Lincolnshire School Games competition and why they volunteer their time with Inspire+.
Over the past couple of years we have developed and improved our Sports Leadership pathway into one of the county's most comprehensive leadership structures. As shown below, we now have a leadership pathway which starts in our primary school in year 5 or 6, all through secondary school, and with the newly formed education team providing apprenticeships, we can now provide those committed and passionate leaders employment opportunities post education.
