Membership Services

We are a totally unique charity set up in 2011, who receive no Government funding and are recognised nationally as delivering one of the most comprehensive packages to Primary and Secondary Schools.

We aim to improve the lives for Young People through sport and healthy active lifestyles. We serve secondary schools mainly through providing leadership training and opportunities for students who want to gain experience, skills & knowledge of sports coaching and also the organisation and running of sporting events. Through this programme we have received National awards for their volunteering work. Our volunteering pathway starts from year 5 primary school children and continues through to school leaving age, giving children a pathway ‘from playground to employment’.

Our main service is to Primary schools, for which we provide a comprehensive package including specialist sports coaching that supports up-skilling teachers in delivering high quality PE & school sport, teacher training, programmes for Gifted & Talented pupils, mentoring programme to help those pupils who like sport but suffer with low confidence and much more. We also have a number of inspiration Ambassadors who make regular visits to our schools and work with the children around various aspects which helped them succeed in their sporting achievements and over-come challenges they face growing up at school. Our ambassadors include Olympians, Paralympians and people who are truly inspiring in their achievements. We have also created a number of whole school resources to increase physical activity throughout the school across the curriculum whilst meeting the current Ofsted framework.

Each academic year concludes in over 2000 primary school children taking part in their own Mini Olympics at the Grantham Meres Athletics Stadium, which is organised by the charities secondary school volunteers; the Young Ambassador Steering Group.
The charity is expanding year on year with more schools across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands accessing the services that we provide.

Through the development of our vastly experienced Education Team, we align all our services to the current Ofsted framework. We demonstrate how each service hits key areas and how it can be used cross-curriculum or to target different specific groups of children. We provide support for up-skilling school staff, along with mapping, auditing and implementing the pe curriculum, after school clubs and school competition. Through our vastly experienced staff we are able to offer support when schools receive their Ofsted visit, supporting the PE coordinator and if requested presenting to the Ofsted inspector.

We pride ourselves on the quality of service we provide with our reputation speaking for itself. Each year our membership package is updated to best fit the needs and requirements of our core schools to give them the highest quality and sustainable impact to their school.

PGL Caythorpe Court

We continue to have strong links with PGL allowing us to offer every inspire+ school the opportunity to access the fantastic facilities available at Caythorpe Court. This is a service PGL does not ordinarily offer to schools but a service unique to the inspire+ membership.

PGL Half Day

As part of their inspire+ membership every school has the opportunity to take advantage of a half-day visit at PGL for their students to participate in team building exercises designed to raise confidence and self esteem. This can be targeted at certain pupils or used for Gifted and Talented pupils.

PGL Access Weekend

Each year inspire+ facilitate a residential Access Weekend for year 6 pupils from across their schools to attend PGL. This is aimed at pupils who may suffer from low confidence, have never had the opportunity to go on a residential or as a reward for a pupil who has achieved a lot during the year. The weekend also gives pupils the chance to meet pupils from other schools who in the following September will be attending the same secondary school. This proves particularly helpful for pupils from village schools as a transition weekend.

Talented Athlete Programme

Inspire+’s comprehensive range of Talented Athlete Programmes range from KS1 year 1’s to KS3 year 7s and also offer support to families for pupils to help fun equipment and training.

With the huge success of our Gifted & Talented program during previous years. We have adapted and progressed the program to allow those pupils showing high athletic ability to work alongside specialist coaches & Olympic and Paralympic athletes in gaining the best mind & skill set to take their sporting success to the next level. The combined sporting knowledge of our experts has developed a variety of sessions to deliver to selected pupils.

Leadership

Leadership plays an integral part in the inspire+ services to schools. As a charity we support schools and encourage leadership in several different ways for the development of both adults and young people:

Sports Leadership Academy

Designed to support the next generation of sports coaches/PE teachers. Students access free National Governing Body (NGB) bolt on awards and can be mentored by NGB development officers/coaches.

We have over 275 young people who have access to the Sports Leadership Academy Programme each year. They can gain Qualifications free of charge in different sports including Badminton, Athletics, Indoor Rowing, Tennis, Table Tennis, Hockey, Netball and Boccia. We always have a good turnout of very enthusiastic young people for all the courses we run for our students.

Those Leaders who continue to volunteer with us are then provided the opportunity to attend Sports Leaders Qualifications Level 1 and 2. These are nationally recognised courses to provide the leaders with a formal qualification in Sports Leadership, for them to take forward into their future careers.

Young Ambassadors

The role of the Ambassadors is to inspire pupils in their school to be involved more in sport and leadership. Young Ambassadors range from Bronze Ambassadors in Primary Schools. For the first time ever Bronze Ambassadors are now recognised in Secondary schools up to year 8 as Bronze+ turning into Silver in year 9 and then through to Gold Ambassadors. inspire+ appoints Platinum Ambassadors who support the charity to deliver the programme. inspire+ runs this programme in partnership with the local School Games Organising Team.

Parent Volunteers

The Parent Volunteer Programme is an initiative inspire+ offers to train parents/guardians and support staff to help run after school and lunch time sporting activities at their school. The training provides the skills and knowledge required to deliver a safe, effective and child-friendly school sports club.

Playground Leaders

inspire+ Playground Leader training focuses on the expansion of leadership / teamwork skills and behaviour development between staff and pupils within lunch and break time environments. We train both staff and pupils to confidently lead playground activities, which are inclusive to all ages.

We deliver a six-hour block of training, adapted to fit your schools’ timetable. Within the six hours, we look at all aspects of being a Playground Leader. We assess how we can encourage KS2 pupils to take on responsible roles on the playground, leading games for other children as well as training lunchtime staff; not only to support the children, but lead varied activities to increase physical activity throughout the school. Children will get given a playground leader booklet, which they will need to complete tasks set by the course tutor. The training allows pupils to take a responsibility on the playground to ensure of other children’s safety as well as delivering games. Also, we support other members of staff to help with their CPD and gain better understanding of playground leading and more confidence. After pupils have completed the course, the children gain a certificate and a playground leader cap. This can be presented to them in an assembly or a celebration event by their course tutor.

With the government now recommending 60 minutes a day of activity for all children, lunch and break times at school are the perfect opportunities to gain these minutes 5 days a week. Ensuring the activities available are all inclusive is vital to everyone hitting this target and is one of our biggest target outcomes of playground leader training. Alongside this we aim to improve behaviour throughout free time, creating a friendly fun environment for all to play and explore in.

Mentoring Programme

We are proud to offer two different mentoring programmes to our member schools. Firstly our standard mentoring programme, which provides support and guidance to young people who have a genuine interest in sport. Secondly our fitness mentoring, which focuses on the components of fitness – Flexibility, Co-ordination, Balance, and endurance. Each programme is outlined in more detail below.

Mentoring:

The mentors will help guide behaviours to learning in order to support effective participation, enhance learning, raise aspiration and achieve full potential.

Schools will identify young people who are not maximising their potential specifically in the following areas:

  • Not applying themselves academically,
  • Gifted and talented in sport,
  • Young people with behavioural or confidence issues.

The mentoring programme will work with 4 children per school from either year 5 or 6, with 6 contact sessions which will take place across 2 terms. The sessions are conducted in either pairs or as a group. More session can be available to schools upon request. The sessions cover topics such as;

  • Growth mindsets
  • Healthy eating
  • School work
  • Hobbies
  • Attitude and body language
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Anger

At the end of each session, pupils will create a pledge to achieve by the next session to aid them on their journey. Throughout the programme, mentors will send out a report including a general overview, concerns, targets, interest of the child and any additional comments. All our mentors have attended courses and received training from well-being and mentoring workshops around the county to advance their knowledge and gain more interactive and mindful resources to use within the sessions.

Fitness Mentoring:

Lead by our ambassador, Olympian Sophie Allen. Schools nominate their chosen pupils for the programme to have a visit from Sophie once per term focusing on the components of fitness – Flexibility, Co-ordination, Balance, and endurance.

Each visit Sophie will test and challenge the participants to improve on each of the areas, allowing them to develop skills that will create a healthier lifestyle for the future. This has been found to provide guidance for children who aren’t receiving or taking their full opportunities with:

  • Anger
  • Confidence
  • Social skills
  • Low Activity levels
  • Hobbies

The Mini Olympics is an annual fun-filled event that brings children together to engage in friendly and non-competitive sports. Similar to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Mini Olympics features a variety of activities, including Opening and Closing ceremonies, participation of celebrities, athletics, boccia, boxercise, American football and much more!

Continued Professional Development for Schools

A comprehensive programme of primary school courses (CPD) is delivered locally each year through inspire+. As part of each school’s membership, they get the chance to access numerous courses aimed at supporting all school staff delivering high quality PE and Sport.

Our CPD courses offer teaching and support staff an insight to various different sports and programmes to enable them to deliver high quality PE and school sport to their pupils. Our CPD course cover several focus areas including the National Curriculum (Dance, Gymnastics, realPE and realGym), extra-curricular activities, Getting Young People Active (playground leader training and lunchtime supervisor training), Early Years and Disability Sports.
