Apprentice of the Month –
Tiana Mason – Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice
Tiana Mason is a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprentice at Manor Drive Secondary School, where she supports students both academically and personally throughout their school day. Through her apprenticeship with inspire+, Tiana is building the skills, experience and confidence needed to progress within the education sector while making a positive difference to young people’s lives.
Finding a passion for helping young people
Tiana’s journey into education began shortly after leaving sixth form, when she took on a role within a primary school. Looking for ways to continue developing her skills and qualifications, she found a progression pathway through inspire+ and began her Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship.
Alongside her work in schools, Tiana has been a swimming teacher since the age of 16. It was through this role that she first discovered her passion for helping children learn, develop and achieve their goals.
“Working as a swimming teacher is where I found my passion for helping young children succeed.”
For Tiana, working with young people every day has reinforced her desire to build a long-term career in education and continue supporting the next generation.
The power of communication
One of the most valuable lessons Tiana has taken from her apprenticeship so far is the importance of communication.
Working within a busy secondary school environment has helped her understand how effective communication supports both colleagues and students, while helping to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children feel safe and supported.
“Communication is a key skill that I have learnt through this apprenticeship. I have realised how important it is within a work environment and how important it is to children to help them build a safe environment.”
Outside the classroom, Tiana plays netball and previously refereed football. Both experiences have helped her develop confidence, leadership and communication skills that she is able to bring into her role as a Teaching Assistant.
Progressing through education
As she continues her apprenticeship journey, Tiana is focused on building the knowledge, experience and practical skills that will help her progress within the education sector.
The combination of learning on programme and gaining hands-on experience in school has provided her with a strong foundation for future opportunities and career development.
“I want to utilise the skills that I am learning to progress within all aspects of the education sector.”
With a clear commitment to personal and professional development, Tiana is already taking important steps towards achieving her future ambitions.
